St. Katharine Drexel

Katharine Drexel was born in Philadelphia on November 26, 1858, the second child of Hannah and Francis Anthony Drexel.
Katharine was twenty-one when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. For three years she nursed her mother as she was suffering. During this time, she felt the call to religious life.
Following the miraculous healing of Robert Gutherman’s eardrum, St. Katharine was beatified in 1988. The healing of little Amy Wall’s deafness opened the way for her canonization by Pope John Paul II on Oct. 1, 2000.
